I don't know what the ceramics scene is like up there, but it seems like a pretty artsy place in general. Top of my list of places to move is actually Seattle - University of Washington has an awesome Ceramics grad program, and there seems to be a large community of ceramic artists there. I've pretty much decided I must get a residency at Pottery Northwest: http://www.potterynorthwest.org/

Good luck, and glad to have discovered your blog. Tons of places to dance- Lindy HOp in the Park, Metronome Ballroom, and various parties around town. Great swing culture. Ceramics are also great. I'm part of a relatively new ceramic studio, Red Brick, in the heart of the Mission- the arts neighborhood- which has a short waiting list for space. Contact me if you would like more information. The space is great and very affordable. There's also Ruby's and the Clay Studio. And across the bay there are even more fantastic clay things like Trax Gallery, Fourth and Clay, Ceramic Arts of Berkeley... And as far as grad programs go there is San Jose State, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and SF State. And we've got CCACA (California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Arts) too! Good Luck deciding! :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12640513421114712561noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092272382384742896.post-88103757301265063242010-05-03T17:13:18.144-06:002010-05-03T17:13:18.144-06:00Hi Erin! There's also many art collectives here that are independent, and a little more DIY.

As for PDX, i've only been there once myself and loved it. I'm sure you'll have fun. It's awesome! I've been the past three years, Louisville, Pittsburg, & Phoenix. Are you going alone or with friends? It's good to have a focus because there are always so many different galleries, lectures, panels, etc that I want to go to and sometimes I feel all the good ones overlap. It can be difficult to fit in everything you want to do. The demonstrations can be really helpful or can be a waste of time, depending on how they go. If you love the work of the demonstrators, go early to get a good seat, and if they're not interesting enough after the first hour I might leave if there was something else I'd like to see. Bring a cup for the cup sale, & bring business cards. Bring money for the vendors because you'll find some new tools & they're usually discounted for the conference. The bus tours of galleries are one of the best parts, as long as you choose a good route... I don't know if there's any way to know what's good ahead of time though. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions (email ceramicerin at gmail) :) Enjoy!Erinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07048340996080986674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092272382384742896.post-25531565201867013222010-01-22T05:39:26.993-07:002010-01-22T05:39:26.993-07:00I have just found your blog. I have taken glaze workshops with her and I know that she gets the "snowflakes" as she calls them from using talc in her glaze. She also triple layers colors to get the effects she gets. I agree her glazes are wonderful! as is she :)
She fires to ^10 in a Geil gas kiln.Tracey Broomehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14560971496423789576noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092272382384742896.post-67006784944061224622010-01-21T23:43:16.485-07:002010-01-21T23:43:16.485-07:00awww just super erin, love the jumping bikes and y...awww just super erin, love the jumping bikes and your top and tail treatment on the mugs!! cool...ang designhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10818952156682990100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1092272382384742896.post-32666827382257520192010-01-21T08:29:49.182-07:002010-01-21T08:29:49.182-07:00Erin,
